‘Fear Of God’ is an ode to my many years spent living in the south and the strange ways I repeatedly encountered religious trauma in my romantic relationships. It’s a bit of departure from my usual style in that it’s hyper-narrative, at least in the verses, before opening up to something more allusive in the choruses. The melodies and production are meant to feel both meandering yet headed towards some purposeful destination, like a parable."
