Formerly a member of rap trio Oh! Dark Arrow, Push Push has collaborated with producers from Cape Town’s Thor Rixon to Toronto’s Pusher.
Her high-energy performances have taken her to stages in London and New York, as well as prominent local events like CTEMF, Smoking Dragon and Rocking the Daisies. If you haven’t spotted her name on lineups alongside the likes of Peanut Butter Wolf, you’re sure to have heard her tracks ‘Jut Life’ and ‘Atom Bomb’ featured on Comedy Central’s Broad City.
A recent feature on Tommy Lee's solo record (Tops) is a testament to Push Push's versatility and hunger to create music that’s as unique as it is catchy. ACAB, a collaboration with Nadya Tolokonnikova of famed Russian punk group/art collective, Pussy Riot, is proof that Push Push cannot be boxed in to any specific genre, as her seething delivery accompanies furious riffs and breakneck, grinding rhythms.
No Gods is the debut EP from Push Push— a collection of Nicci’s most accessible yet lethal material to date.
The Line Of Best Fit South African Rapper Push Push Drops Playful Jam "INB4"
"Push Push's new track effervesces with kinetic electronics and shades of SOPHIE with the clip-clop of pitched percussion. Her flow is snappy and confrontational, with her lyrics set off by her thick South African accent"
"The latest from Push Push marks a notable shift from rage-infused rhymes to nearly danceable electronic chaos. Tapping Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova, the South African rapper is sharing a machine-gun single where she drops no-longer-all-that-radical lines like “Defund these motherfuckers, fund dissent"
"Despite the easy-to-digest melodies and hook, she's holding on to all the personality, peculiarity, and forward-thinking tendencies. "Front Door" is extremely catchy and immediate with masterful hi-fi production, but it's full of surprises. Unlike so much of the glitchy, chaotic music of the moment, the song manages to hold its composure, welcoming just a bit of empty space, plenty of polish, and a steady beat that separates it from the new rush of chaotic DIYers dominating SoundCloud right now"
"Her latest EP 'No Gods' sees South African rapper Push Push going beyond previous limits as she opens up creatively and emotionally"
